1. Who we are
GetAssignment (trading as GetAssignment, “we”, “us”, “our”) provides academic support services to students worldwide. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this notice, which means we decide what data is collected and why.
You can reach our data protection contact at support@getassignment.in or on +91 95096 17330.
This notice applies to our website, our order and messaging systems, and any support conversation you have with us by email or message. It does not apply to third-party websites we link to; those services have their own privacy notices, which you should read separately.
2. Information we collect
We deliberately collect as little as we can while still delivering the service you have paid for. In practice, the data falls into six groups.
Identity and contact data
Your name (or the name you choose to use with us), email address, phone number and preferred messaging channel. You are not required to give us your real name, your student number or the name of your institution, and we never ask for them.
Order data
The details you provide when you request support: subject area, academic level, word count, deadline, referencing style, the brief or specification you upload, and any supporting files, notes, lecture slides or reading lists you choose to share. These files may contain personal data about you; please redact anything you would rather we never saw.
Transaction data
The amount you paid, the currency, the date, the service purchased and the last four digits and card type returned to us by our payment provider. We do not receive, see or store your full card number, expiry date or security code at any point — those go directly to the payment provider over an encrypted connection.
Communications data
Messages exchanged with our support desk or your assigned expert, including attachments, and records of calls we make or receive. Support calls may be recorded for training and dispute resolution; you will be told at the start of the call if that is the case.
Technical data
IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, screen size, time zone, referring URL and the pages you viewed on our site. This is standard server and analytics data used to keep the site fast, secure and working properly on your device.
Marketing preferences
Whether you have opted in to occasional emails about deadlines, discounts and new subject coverage, and whether you have subsequently opted out. We keep a suppression record of opt-outs so that we can honour them.
Special category data. We do not ask for data revealing your health, ethnicity, religion, political opinions, sexual orientation, trade union membership or biometric identity. If you volunteer such information — for example when requesting an extension on medical grounds — we will use it only to handle that specific request, on the basis of your explicit consent, and delete it once the request is resolved.
3. How and why we use your information
UK GDPR requires us to have a lawful basis for every use of your personal data. Ours are set out below.
Performance of a contract
We use your identity, contact, order and transaction data to create your account, match you with a suitably qualified expert, produce and deliver your materials, process revisions, issue receipts and handle refunds. Without this data we simply cannot supply the service.
Legitimate interests
We rely on legitimate interests to keep our platform secure and free of fraud, to analyse aggregated usage so we can improve the site, to maintain quality assurance records for the work our experts produce, to recover unpaid sums and to defend legal claims. We have carried out a balancing assessment for each of these uses and will share a summary on request. You can object to any processing based on legitimate interests — see section 7.
Consent
We rely on consent for non-essential cookies, for marketing emails and SMS, for publishing a testimonial that identifies you, and for any special category data you volunteer. Consent is always optional, always granular and can be withdrawn at any time without affecting the service you have already bought.
Legal obligation
We retain transaction records to meet tax and accounting requirements, and will disclose data where we are legally compelled to do so by a court order or a properly constituted request from a law enforcement or regulatory body.
5. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal data, and we never have. We share it only with the categories of recipient below, each of which is bound by a written contract that restricts what they may do with it.
- Payment providers — to take payment, issue refunds and screen for card fraud. They act as independent controllers for the card data you give them.
- Cloud hosting and storage providers — to run the website, store your files and back them up securely.
- Email, SMS and messaging providers — to send order confirmations, delivery notifications and, if you have opted in, marketing.
- Originality checking providers — to generate the originality report included with your delivery. Documents submitted for checking are not added to any public repository.
- Subject experts and editors — the specialist assigned to your order sees your brief and any files you upload, but not your surname, payment details, phone number or email address. Every expert signs a confidentiality agreement before taking a single order.
- Review platforms — if you agree to leave a review, we pass your email address to the platform so it can send you an invitation. You can decline.
- Professional advisers and authorities — accountants, insurers and lawyers where necessary, and regulators or law enforcement where legally required.
We do not share your brief, your uploaded files or any part of your order with any third-party generative service. Your work is researched and written by the subject expert assigned to it, and nothing you send us is ever used to train, fine-tune or develop any third-party system.
6. How long we keep your information
We keep personal data only for as long as we have a reason to, then delete it or irreversibly anonymise it.
- Order files and briefs — 12 months from delivery, so that you can request the free revisions covered by our guarantee and re-download your materials.
- Account and contact data — for as long as your account is active, then 24 months after your last interaction with us.
- Support conversations — 24 months, to give context if you come back with a related question.
- Transaction and invoice records — six full financial years, as required by tax law.
- Marketing suppression list — indefinitely, because we must remember that you asked us to stop contacting you.
- Server and security logs — 90 days.
You can ask us to delete your order files sooner than the periods above, and we will normally do so within seven days unless we are required to keep them.
7. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the following rights. They are free to exercise, and we will respond within one calendar month — we usually manage it in under a week.
- Access — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, together with an explanation of how we use it.
- Rectification — have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data where we no longer need it, where you withdraw consent, or where you have successfully objected. This right is not absolute; we may retain records we are legally required to keep.
- Restriction — ask us to pause processing while a dispute about accuracy or legitimate interests is resolved.
- Portability — receive the data you gave us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, or have us send it directly to another provider where technically feasible.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests, and object absolutely to direct marketing. If you object to marketing we will stop immediately, no questions asked.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of anything we did before you withdrew it.
To exercise any right, contact us via support@getassignment.in with the subject line “Data rights request”. We may ask a security question to confirm you are who you say you are — this protects you, not us. There is no automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
8. International transfers
Our operations team, our expert network and some of our suppliers are located outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. That means your personal data may be transferred to, stored in or accessed from countries whose data protection laws differ from the UK’s.
Whenever we make such a transfer we put an approved safeguard in place: either the country benefits from UK adequacy regulations, or we use the International Data Transfer Agreement, or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum. We also carry out a transfer risk assessment and apply supplementary technical measures such as encryption in transit and at rest and strict access controls.
You may request a copy of the safeguards we rely on by writing to us via support@getassignment.in. Commercially confidential terms will be redacted, but the data protection provisions will not be.
9. How we keep your information safe
Security is a practice, not a promise. The measures below are in force today and are reviewed at least annually.
- TLS 1.3 encryption for all traffic between your device and our servers.
- Encryption at rest for uploaded files, databases and backups.
- Role-based access control on a least-privilege basis; experts see only the files relevant to their assigned order.
- Multi-factor authentication mandatory for every member of staff with access to production systems.
- Confidentiality and data protection clauses in every staff, contractor and expert agreement.
- Segregated backups with tested restore procedures.
- Independent penetration testing and continuous dependency vulnerability scanning.
No system can be guaranteed impregnable. If a personal data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will report it to the Information Commissioner’s Office within 72 hours and tell you directly and without undue delay where the risk to you is high.
10. Children’s data
Our services are intended for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly market to or collect personal data from children. Where a customer is aged 16 or 17 and is studying at college or sixth form, we will only proceed with the involvement and consent of a parent, guardian or the fee-paying account holder.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us via support@getassignment.in and we will delete it promptly and confirm once it is gone.
11. Changes to this notice
We review this notice at least once a year and whenever we introduce a new service, supplier or technology that affects how personal data is handled. The “last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
If a change materially affects your rights — for example a new category of recipient or a substantially longer retention period — we will tell you by email before it takes effect, and where the law requires it we will ask for fresh consent. We keep previous versions and will provide one on request.
12. Contact us and how to complain
For anything to do with your data, contact us first — it is almost always the fastest route to a resolution.
- Message us: support@getassignment.in (Support desk open 24/7, 365 days a year)
- Phone: +91 95096 17330 (Support desk open 24/7, 365 days a year)
If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s supervisory authority for data protection. You can reach the ICO at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right before you approach them, but you are entitled to go straight to the ICO if you prefer.
