We built the study-support service we wish we’d had
Thirteen years ago we were the students refreshing an inbox at 2am, wondering whether the essay service we had paid would send anything back at all. Everything about how GetAssignment works — an in-house team of named experts who research and write every word themselves, prices quoted before you commit, revisions that stay free for a month — is a direct answer to a night one of us actually had.
It started with eight people, a seminar room and a shared spreadsheet
In the autumn of 2012, eight postgraduates at Leeds started meeting on Thursday evenings to pull each other through a research-methods module that was quietly destroying all of them. One of them was a former marker. She started writing worked examples — not answers to hand in, but fully referenced demonstrations of what a distinction-grade argument looked like when it was taken apart and rebuilt. By December the group had grown to forty people and the spreadsheet had a waiting list.
The thing that made it work was not brilliance. It was that the examples came with explanations. Seeing a strong literature review is mildly useful; seeing a strong literature review annotated with why each paragraph is placed where it is changes how you write the next one yourself. That annotation later became the marker’s note that ships with every order we deliver, and it is still the part students tell us they value most.
GetAssignment became a company in 2014 because the study group had run out of Thursdays. We grew slowly and deliberately: subject by subject, hiring people onto our own team only if they had actually taught or marked the thing they would be writing about. That constraint has cost us a great deal of growth and it is the reason we are still here while a dozen faster-moving competitors are not.
Today that in-house team is built from vetted specialists covering every major subjects, from tort law and mechanical engineering to nursing placements and corporate finance. Every one of them was interviewed, tested and trained by us, and every word we deliver is researched and written by one of them — we accept fewer than one in twelve of the specialists who apply, and we have never run this as a freelancer marketplace where anyone can bid on your brief. We have supported 92,400 students across 486,000 pieces of work. The support desk is open every hour of every day, because deadlines have never respected office hours and neither should we.
Milestones
- 2012
A Thursday-night study group forms at Leeds around one brutal research-methods module.
- 2014
Incorporated as a company with eleven experts and a rule we still keep: only hire people who have marked.
- 2017
The marker's note becomes standard on every order after students ask for it by name.
- 2019
The support desk goes 24/7, and average first-response time drops below thirty minutes.
- 2022
Free revisions extended from 14 days to 30, because a fortnight rarely covers a feedback cycle.
- 2025
A full originality report becomes standard on every delivery, alongside rolling quality scores for every expert.
Four commitments that shape every decision
Not slogans. Each of these has cost us money at least once, which is roughly how you tell a value from a tagline.
Quality over volume
We turn down roughly one order in nine — usually because the deadline is too tight to do the subject justice, or because nobody free that week has genuinely taught the topic. Saying no costs us money and keeps the promise intact. Every piece of work passes a subject-expert review and an editorial pass before you see it, and the reviewer's name is on the internal record.
Students first, always
The person paying is usually the person with the least power in the transaction, so we designed against that. Prices are quoted before you commit, experts are named before work begins, revisions stay free for a month, and refunds follow a published schedule rather than a manager's mood. If a policy would embarrass us to explain to a student, we do not have that policy.
Honest pricing
Every brief is priced individually by our team, and the figure you are quoted is the figure you pay — not a headline rate that doubles once you add referencing, formatting or a similarity report. Those are included, along with the title page, contents, revisions and direct expert chat. If your brief turns out to need less work than you asked for, we quote less. We have never charged an urgency surcharge after quoting.
Support that outlasts the deadline
The deadline is the beginning of the useful part, not the end. Everything your expert writes ships with a marker's note explaining the structural reasoning, so the document teaches as well as demonstrates. Revisions run for 30 days, and if your tutor's feedback arrives inside that window we will rework the material against it at no cost.

Fewer than one applicant in twelve makes it through
Over 22,000 people applied to write for us last year. Fewer than one in twelve of them was accepted. Here is what stands between the two numbers.
1 in 12
acceptance rate, at best
Every expert holds a verified degree in the subject they write for, and the large majority have marked undergraduate or postgraduate work in a university department. We would rather tell you a subject is fully booked than hand your brief to someone who learnt it last week.
Credential verification
Degree certificates, transcripts and institutional email addresses are checked against the awarding body. No verified qualification, no application.
Subject examination
A closed-book written paper set by an existing senior expert in the same field. It is marked blind and roughly half of applicants stop here.
Timed writing task
A real brief from our archive, written to deadline and marked against the original rubric. We are looking for argument and referencing discipline, not word count.
Integrity and ethics interview
A live conversation about academic-integrity boundaries, what an expert-written worked solution is for, and how to refuse a request that crosses the line.
Supervised probation
The first ten orders are reviewed line by line by a senior expert before delivery. Anyone who dips below our quality threshold does not continue.
The people accountable for all of it
Four names, four inboxes that are actually read. If something goes wrong with your order, it eventually reaches one of these desks.
Dr Amara Okonjo
Co-founder & Chief Academic Officer
Former lecturer in organisational behaviour who still personally reviews every escalated quality dispute.
Tomás Herrera
Co-founder & Chief Executive
Ran the original Leeds study group in 2012 and has written the pricing policy every year since — always downwards.
Priya Raghunathan
Director of Expert Quality
Designed the five-stage hiring funnel and owns the acceptance rate that comes out of it: fewer than one applicant in twelve.
Callum Whitfield
Head of Student Support
Built the 24/7 support desk and answers messages himself on Sunday nights, which tells you most of what you need to know.
Five promises we will not quietly drop
These are written into our terms, printed on every delivery, and the first thing a new expert is trained on.
Transparent pricing
The number you are quoted is the number you pay. Formatting, referencing, similarity reports and revisions are inside the price, not bolted on at checkout.
Written by a named specialist
Every word is researched and written from scratch by a named subject expert on our own team, whose degree certificate we have verified with the awarding body and whose profile, credentials and student rating you see before you pay. You message them directly throughout, and an originality report ships with the finished work.
Confidentiality by default
We never contact your institution, we do not ask for your student number, and order records are pseudonymised. Payment descriptors are deliberately discreet.
No resale of your work
Material written for you is written once. It is never republished, added to a sample library, or sold to another student — the copyright transfers to you on delivery.
Responsible-use guidance
Every delivery explains how expert-written work is meant to be used and how to cite it properly. We supply learning resources and reference material, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Judge us on the work, not the About page
Send us a brief and see what comes back. Quotes are free, the expert is named before you pay, and you can walk away at any point up to that.
Support desk open 24/7, 365 days a year. Every message reaches a coordinator who can act on it.
